Great bike for street and moderate trails
Overall I am pretty happy with this bike. While researching other bikes at this price point, this was the only one I could find that had a 9 speed shifter and was under 70 lbs. The 9 speed shifter has been really useful. Likewise, the option to adjust the percentage and number of assist levels also helps to dial in the bike for use on different terrain.
However, as other reviewers have pointed out, the bike struggles a bit on uphills. I ended up replacing the 52T chain ring with a smaller 42T ring and this works much better. On narrow uphill trails, my only option with the original ring was to crank up the pedal assist above 30% once I reached the lowest gears. Not the safest option because you end up taking a straighter line and you have to make quick decisions navigating obstacles. With the 42T ring, I can shift to 2 lower gears at around 25% assist and this gives better control. There is also not much of a drop-off in top speed with the 42T because I could still reach around 28 mph on the highest gear with plenty of resistance on the pedals. The bike could still use some additional help with the lower gears so at some point I might end up changing out the rear cassette to a Shimano HG-201. That would give the same top gears but lower gear ratios for the lower gears.
The main reason though that this bike gets only 4 stars rather than 5 is the design of the rear rack attachment. There are two attachment points on the seat stem that look to be designed to accommodate aβ¦
